9,100 athletes, including 51 wheelchair users, assembled this past Sunday, August 27, at the Bali Marine & Safari Park Gianyar for the Maybank Bali Marathon 2017. Nearly all the wheelchair marathoners are clients of Puspadi Bali, a UCP Wheels for Humanity partner organization, dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with physical disabilities in Bali and Eastern Indonesia. Puspadi Bali is also an implementing partner of Wheelchair User’s Voice, a two-year Google.org funded research project, being implemented in Indonesia. The project studies quality, durability and performance of six different types of wheelchairs, and the impact on the user’s quality of life, health, economic and social participation. The aim is to transform the existing market by equipping buyers with data so that their limited funds can be best spent to maximize positive outcomes for users.
Ida Ayu Ketut Kenari, winner of the wheelchair users race, and a WUV participant was using a UCP Expression wheelchair, provided by Puspadi Bali.
